Life in a UConn Learning Community

UConn_RAs

Hi everyone! Colby, here!

As one of nearly 17,000 students on the Storrs campus, its often hard to feel connected to the rest of the students. However, with nearly 500 clubs and organizations, its easy for students to find a community to call home. One such opportunity is found within one of the over 20 Learning Communities!

As a second year (pre)pharmacy student, I have a close connection to the LC’s on campus. When applying for housing Freshman year, I decided to join the (pre)pharmacy learning community to meet students that shared the same goal as myself: graduating from pharmacy school and helping others. In joining the LC I have gained much more than floormates and peers; I have gained lifelong friends! Living with students that take many of the same classes allows you to form study groups and review session with ease. Specially assigned Resident Assistants, who share the common interests are the LC students, plan events and activities based on the communities topic. UConn’s Residential Life department offers LC’s based on major or program as well as greater interests. In this type of community, residents are able to engage in a variety of field trips, professional and leadership opportunities, social activities, and much more!

Members of the (Pre)Pharmacy LC support the 4K James Malaney Scholarship Fun Run.

I am an Allied Health major from Bethany, Connecticut. Within my first year at the University of Connecticut, I became in involved in the Student Alumni Association and the Undergraduate Student Government. I am also active among the Learning Community on campus, the Equestrian club, and a proud sister of Lambda Kappa Sigma (a professional sorority). I absolutely love getting involved around campus!
