Hi everyone, it’s Hina here, ready to tell you all about the different clubs and organizations we have at UConn!
With over 450 clubs to choose from there’s definitely a lot ways to get involved on campus. There’s an Involvement Fair at the beginning of each semester for all the clubs and organizations and many students go there to sign up for the club’s mailing list. People typically join clubs to meet new friends (which is what I did) and to pursue their interests. It’s also a great idea to join a club related to your major so you can meet other students who have the same major as you. I know I’m definitely going to join the Marketing Society next semester once I actually declare my major in Marketing.
I decided to join clubs at UConn because other than the friends in my classes and residential hall, I wanted to meet new people. I went to the Involvement Fair and signed up for every club’s mailing list! My Huskymail was flooded with emails! But I’m glad I did, because that gave me the opportunity to choose which club meeting to go to. In high school, the clubs I joined where mostly academic based, so I wanted to do something different in college.
One club I’m involved in at UConn is PCUC which stands for the Pakistani Community at UConn. I joined PCUC because I wanted to be more involved with my culture which is something I did not have a chance to do in high school. I made really great friends through that club, and even met my future roommate! PCUC threw a lot of cool events during the year, such as the annual PCUC Cultural Show, that I participated in. My friends and I formed a dance group and preformed at the show. We called ourselves UConn Kudiyan which means girls in Punjabi.
There is so much to do on campus
that sometimes I feel like I don’t have enough time to do everything I want to! And there are various clubs to choose from, ranging from religious clubs, like the Muslim Students Association, to academic clubs, like the Pre-Med Society, to even unique clubs, like the People Watching Club, which is all about the art of observation. I know once the school year starts, I’m definitely going to the Involvement Fair to pursue my other interests!
